Launching a new brand is daunting, and while we were confident in our product, branding and sales team, we didn’t know how to navigate the world of social media. We knew we needed help, but weren’t sure where to start. Fortunately, a colleague recommended the Digital Strategy Doctor. We got clear and creative feedback, advice on how to implement sustainable strategies on our own, and we’ve seen real results!

Ethical drinkware company

“You don’t realise how much time (and money) you’re wasting until you have a streamlined and targeted approach that gets your product straight into the inboxes and feeds of people who will actually buy it.”

Publisher

“You think you know Facebook – because you’re on it all the time. But there’s a world of difference between posting about your life and making money while you sleep. DSD turned my whole process around by helping me see exactly who I wanted to attract and how to get them on board.”

Jewellery company

“One of the key things we learned was how to really engage a community, rather than broadcast to them. This helps not just in getting sales, but in improving your relationship with your customers and your product. It’s an essential feedback loop if you want to do well in today’s marketplace”

The Digital Cure

What is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is a painless procedure which leaves you and your business revitalised and thriving. It usually involves diagnosing any existing ailments and creating a treatment programme for optimised health.

We can help you:

Why is Digital Marketing Good for Me?

1. You don’t need a big budget to directly engage with target customers.

In the marketing world we talk about outbound (traditional) and inbound (digital) marketing approaches. Outbound is characterised by advertising on television or in magazines, where a lot of money is spent pushing out information about your product to a lot of people - only some of whom will be interested. Inbound - or digital - is a method where not only is less money spent, but it’s all about drawing people in. You’re not blasting them with information, you’re welcoming them inside for a catch up.

2. You don’t need a big team to maintain it.

Big companies with lots of money have vast digital marketing teams and allocate a lot of budget to digital content. This is because it works (see below). But small companies don’t need to invest anywhere near that much in order to have impact. It’s all in the strategy. The more strategic the approach, the more targeted it is, and the more customers you can get for relatively little outlay. And when you know what works, you can confidently scale that approach knowing you’re not wasting money on the type of marketing (see ‘outbound’ above) that is basically pretty scattergun in approach.

3. It is highly measurable and therefore highly targeted.

Every second we are doing something online we are feeding the data silos with information that can be effectively leveraged for marketing. Ever noticed how Googling medical symptoms tells Facebook to suggest you might need some Lemsip? The data that is gathered is practically infinite and much of it can be accessed in order to determine exactly which marketing approaches to take. As mentioned above, this means you waste less money on trials or scattergun approaches, but it also means you start pulling more money in sooner too. It’s the science of selling with a far better return on investment than your other options.

4. It’s highly customisable.

Digital marketing works best when you focus on the uniqueness of your business - and even the most generic business will have its differences. Once you drill down into what makes you unique, you carve out your territory and differentiate yourself from your competition. All your digital marketing is then flavoured to your original specifications and you stand out even more. Again this helps tighten your approach and bring in more money sooner.

5. You learn more about your customers and meet their needs more directly.

Because digital marketing is a two-way discussion between company and customer, it allows you to build solid relationships with people. These relationships not only help develop customer loyalty, but if you listen carefully, you’ll learn more about who your customers actually are. This means again you tighten your marketing methods, but also that you can adapt your products or pivot the nature of your business to better serve gaps in the market. In previous eras a lot of additional research would have to be conducted, but in the era of the lean start-up, the data quickly tells you which way to go.

6. It’s where your customers are already.

Businesses used to set up on the local high street and take advantage of all the people going about their own business and buying what they need. Well, look outside, they’re not there anymore - at least not in the numbers they used to be. Where are they? On their phones most likely! In fact today we even have the phenomenon of double-screening, where people are surfing the net on a tablet or phone while watching TV - perhaps trying to remind themselves what they last saw Kevin Bacon in, or perhaps doing the Tesco shop for tomorrow. Digital marketing is the digital equivalent of having a prime location on that lovely old high street, as well as having the best rapport with all the townsfolk.

7. You can reach customers day and night.

The internet never sleeps and these days your customers don’t much either. Again, remember those high street shops that closed at 5.30 every evening - and earlier on early-closing day. Well your business can be open and taking orders 24/7 and you don’t even need to be there to deal with them. Thanks to all manner of automated digital marketing systems you can sell while you sleep.

8. Your customers like it because they feel more involved.

People are sick of being sold to. Digital technology has empowered all of us with more choices and more ways to make those choices. We’ve grown in confidence - equally happy to research, buy and critique the performance and customer service of everything from washing machines to gourmet food. The two-way discussion space of digital marketing is naturally more equal and customers enjoy that. They feel safer and more engaged when their opinion is heard and they can find out more in their own way in their own time.

9. There are hundreds of tried and tested techniques for attracting and converting customers.

This is where we need to talk about things like 'sales funnels'. With all that data flying around and all those bots and software systems people have developed to monitor and measure how we behave online, computers and humans have collaborated on countless ways of moving buyers through what’s often called a funnel. It's not a real funnel, but just a really easy way of visualising how lots of customers can be captured and filtered down to those who actually buy things. For every business format there’s a funnel - and much much more. We just have to learn all about YOUR business and build the system you need.

10. It’s an agile approach that can be adapted quickly to take advantage of new market conditions.

Gone are the days when you booked your summer print advert months in advance, only to find out in June that hail storms are expected and white linen is in fact the least likely thing to sell. With digital marketing you can switch the focus of your marketing in a flash. You can even switch the focus of your business pretty fast too (see above). This means as the world changes around you, you can keep your offerings fresh and move with the times.

How Can I Get Better Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is a marvellous medicine that can boost any business. Here's how we can make your digital marketing better:

  1. We will carefully talk through your existing symptoms and perform any checks to establish potential future ailments.
  2. Then we will design your treatment plan to ensure all your needs will be met.
  3. Next we begin treatment and teach you how to maintain your own digital marketing health.
  4. We usually perform several examinations during the process to ensure the medicine is working. If there are any issues we'll switch up our doses at no additional cost.
  5. Finally we'll certify you with a complete bill of digital health and give you your own complete health care plan to keep things on track going forwards.

And don't forget we can come back any time to dispense additional therapies.
